Dear Ladislao,
After an absence of almost 20 years I
recently got re-involved in two of my passions (Motorsport and Photography)
It happened quite by accident, 2 years
ago I was in Curacao on my Honeymoon and I decided to buy a camera. New wife
was upset that I was buying a complicated thing-a-mig and wanted me to buy a
point and shoot. So I snuck out of Honeymoon bed early one morning and went out
to purchase a Minolta Dimage 7i.
Shortly after that, I met some people
currently in Motorsport and I was telling them that after I had stopped racing,
I used to do photography. The suggested that I come back, which I was reluctant
to do because I knew that Autosport to me is like Rum to a chronic alcoholic or
marijuana to a space cadet.
But I went, and things have snowballed
from there in the two years. 4 cameras and a lot of lenses and equipment.
I am getting a lot of work published in
magazines and on the web. I also manage to sell some for advertising.
Unfortunately, I am also getting a lot
of work stolen. I recently picked up a Go-Kart Magazine from Jamaica to see 10
of my photographs in it. But that’s the nature of the beast.
Last time I was at Wallerfield (Motor
racing Circuit), I was up in the bush at the top corner where I spend a lot of
time alone. Well not alone, I usually have a stray dog, a few cobeaux and the
odd vagrant for company. And I recalled when I was at Mount, the many Sundays I
was stuck up there and I knew there was motor racing at Wallerfield, and while
Mount was great for those of you that liked football, cricket and athletics, it
was torture for me who only wanted to be in the 1st Boca Diving or
at a race track.
While covering the power boat event a
few months ago, I was told by officials that I was being put on Mr. Taylor’s
boat.
I felt a bit odd going on a stranger’s
boat and unlike motorsport I really don’t know the Powerboat people. Also, as
an avid sailor, we tend to have some not to nice thing to say about the
powerboat people.
I was shocked and surprised when I was
introduced to Mr. Taylor. It was Roger Taylor. I had not seen him in 30 years.
He was one of the few people I used to lime with at Mount. We used to get up to
some pretty neat pranks together. Usually finding ways to pay back the bully
types. I recalled that we once bought some Carib beer, carefully opened the
bottles. Drank ½, then filled them up with piss and resold them to other guys.
Roger now drinks bloody marys. Wonder
what he substitutes in them……………..haha.
There is a pic of him and wife in the
powerboat page
The only 2 people from Mount that I know
are involved with motorsport are David Pampellone, who you are familiar with
and a V Ramsing who was a day boy in our time.
(Please send in information on V Ramsing, ed.)

Interesting Facebook comments that have to do with
Arthur Knaggs:
Berment-McDowald Joseph
Decent person Arthur Knaggs.
One of the finest people that I ever meet.
His wife (I believe that she was a May - - former
police commissioner Tony May's daughter) was helpful, considerate down to earth
like you couldn't believe.
We spent a weekend in their backyard 50 years ago
camping.
I haven't forgotten it.
Dem Knaggs and Mays were real people.
Rory Davies
Name doesn't ring a bell unless he visited like many
others in the summer time..
It belongs to the Knaggs family..
I lived in it for a stint late '60s..
Rory Davies
I think this was Peter..name escapes me now..
Robert Lyder
Yes, Peter Knaggs he died sometime around 2013 there
about wife Louisa is still around though
Rory Davies
Ok..
They were there when I took the pic..talked a bid..
Robin Davies
Your dad used to work for Peter Knaggs when you lived
there.
I'm not sure if it was his father or grandfather who
had the house built after WW 1. I think
it was completed either 1919 or 1921
Rory Davies
I didn't ask so not sure but what I heard from those
who lived in the area before we got there is that it was Mrs Knaggs side of the
family a General Pacheco who built it..
Robert Lyder
Yes he was a general that left Venezuela to start a
life in Trinidad named the property Santa Estella Estate during the days when
cocoa was king .
Not sure if he built the house though what I
understood from my mom it was a hospital for indentured worker and he bought
and converted it to a dwelling.
Maybe the reason for all the ghost stories
Rory Davies
And why I had so many sleepless nights.. jeez..
de Ole Man punch de bedroom wall one night because I
swore it had ah man in de room wearing ah cloak an hat..
Turns out it was de Ole Man's cloak & hat hanging
on de wall but no man..
Luckily so otherwise he wudda be still in de
hospital..
De Ole Man hand swell up big big big oui..steups

those old father's show us, and now after 50 years we can be together
25/12/19 Luongo miguel angel: I don't think there are
any complains about your English, from anyone of our group of Mount Old Boys.
On the contrary Jesús, I really believe that we are all agree with Adolfo
Aumaitre. You are one of us, just because we met at Mount when we were about
twelve in 1966; make numbers and you'll
see for how long we've been friends, and surely you
don't have more friends since so long.
With and without English, I'll be always your friend
and I think I can talk for all the others too, so don't worry, be happy. Afer
all, we all know that because of very special family reasons you couldn't
continue with your studies at Mount.
Hope to see you soon.
25/12/19 Lopez Jesus: For me they show us that the
best think in our lives it's the family and we are a family. What important it

jump by the head, at that time I meet a guy how did it, brother if you was, in
that time you were plenty friend of Patiño... piringo... Were he is?
Brother's if anyone knows were Piringo is, tell him, that I conserve a baseball
glove, that he give me at that time, for me and my family it's not touched at
this time it's very degenerenerety but I conserve it
26/12/19 Luongo miguel angel: Last time I knew
something about José Antonio Patiño was in 1971, when Gocho (Miguel Angel
García) told me that he was going to the University at Río de Janeiro- Brasil
and Patiño was also going with the same purpose. I never heard about them
again.
