Circular No 980

Newsletter for alumni of The Abbey School, Mt. St. Benedict, Trinidad and Tobago, W.I.

Caracas, 15 of August 2020 No. 980

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

This is the Abbey as it looks today.

It appears that all the side altars that existed in my time (1956-1962), and where I used to frequently serve mass for one of the monks, have been removed.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ

We learned earlier this week that Jose (Cachapa) Malaver died on Tuesday (5th May).  Please keep Jose and his family in your prayers……he graduated from the Abbey School in 1969.

A NEEDLESS AND PREVENTABLE DEATH.

It appears that he died from renal failure.

His country, local hospital and health care system failed him as they ran out of medicines/supplies required for his dialysis treatments.

Jose is one of the hundreds of scores of suffering Venezuelan fatalities in the current chaotic state within the country.

NO: MONEY, MEDICINES, FOOD, ELECTRICITY, WATER, HEALTHCARE, FUNCTIONING HOSPITALS, ETC.

Please say this prayer for Jose, his family, his friends, and all our Venezuelan sisters and brothers:

Subject: Fwd: FYI - ALEJANDRO FELIPE PAULA - ADDED TO SEMINARIAN LIST - DO YOU REMEMBER HIM?

Thank you, George.

Alejandro attended the seminary at Mt St. Benedict between 1954 and 1958.

I was there from 1955-1960 and I did not know him then.

May he now be at peace.

Nigel

From the past.

This last circular # 157 I could download and read... thanks!

The previous ones I could not lower them and I do not know why?

I take advantage to inform you that during the visit of Donald two weeks ago, we did meet with the old and used friends: Urbano and Isaias in Caracas.

Soon after Donald went to PLC to visit a friend in Lecherias and I haven’t seen or heard of the crazy geologist since!!??

I guess he is ok and back home in the US by now!!??

Well Ladislao I sure hope that we get to meet in 2005 at some reunion or a lunch meeting some time and finally give you the photo and brochure that I have from your Bajan friend.

Take care and all the best for 2005,

Brian Goddard

Ladislao:

A really tired swimmer after having crossed the Orinoco and Caroni river (3.5 linear km but the true km distance against the current is more like close to 5 km).

The first is the expression of an exhausted swimmer and the second is that of a curiously happy swimmer after realizing after finishing that he had not drowned while swimming the magnificent Orinoco river!!

I wish I had Steven Tempro´s e-mail address in Barbados; so as to copy him on this message.

Pls copy Steven if you have his address.

Saludos,

Brian

Ladislao

I have been pending to call you before going to Caracas.

I saw to Urban Fedak last month and he promised to call me for a possible reunion.

But before everything I wanted to inform you that I visited your friend Steven Tempro in Barbados.

I have a photo of both of us near the swimming pool of his hotel "Smugglers Cove" which I promised to give you personally when I arrive in Caracas, since I do not have it in digitalized;

So I will call when I have my next visits to Caracas and finally will meet you, ok.

The news of the present time is that a "senior citizen" Brian swam the Orinoco and the Caroni in the middle of the last month.

It was magnificent experience which I will explain it with details when we see ourselves in Caracas and will send a pair to you of photos of the arrival that I received by email.

Greetings,

Brian

--------------------------------------------------------.

Donald:

You are a baby in the photo and by curiosity what about the life of Bodington.

Is he still in Venezuela and where?

If you have his telephone number please let me know.

I am copying to Ladislao and Urbano with my message; since I have not called Ladislao and I have a photo for him of a friend whom I met during my recent trip to Barbados.

I believe that I have mentioned it previously but never I had answer.

I see Urban once in a while near his office in Caracas and I promised Isaias Farcheg to visit him one of these days soon.

They promised to call and let me know when they would have to dinner reunion but never do?

We are going to see if in AD 2004, we can make a specific one reunion in Caracas that I can attend.

Greetings to all,

Brian

I left school in 1959 in England and went to University in Birmingham; I would probably have left Mount a year earlier.

By 1966 I was married with two daughters!

Ok Richard,

I am sorry but I do not have the date you graduated or would have graduated Form V.

Only those in the list were sent the message.

Please give me the graduation date at MSB or elsewhere.

God Bless

Ladislao

Dear Ladislao,

A very interesting picture, but in 1966 I was 25 years old!!

So although that person No 20 may be called Richard de Verteuil, he is a different one to me.

Please make sure that the email address does not get mistakenly promulgated as I do not want to spend much time telling people I don't know them!!

Thanks a lot,

Richard de Verteuil

Subject: Greetings for 2005.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings for 2005.

2004 has been an eventful year for me.

A short holiday in Normandy for the Bastille Day week with my old friend Alfred Bell.

Two visits to Trinidad (with one side trip to Tobago).

A visit to Toronto with my sister Frances.

And two weeks driving around southern England with Frances, who had not been here since the Sixties, seeing the sights and visiting family and friends, one of whom counted as several people because of a multiple personality scenario.

Very interesting, that one, if you can imagine the situation(s)!

The main reason for having all this free time is that at the end of September I retired from my employment of the last fifteen years with Tate and Lyle, the British sugar company.

And for better or worse (time will tell) have been travelling and chilling out.

Now that 2005 is here it is time to get a new job and do productive things, so I have already signed up to do a course in Industrial Safety etc, a topic which is my latest interest, and is part of my experience over many years past.

In June, Cindy finished her degree at LSE and within days of the final exams was back home in Trinidad, such is the lure of the place!

She is working there at the moment, but may be returning to this country some time this year to work in this environment for a time.

Charles is nearly mid way through his undergraduate degree here, and doing well.

To you all, and all others who you know that I know and can pass this message to, especially Aunts Suzanne and Mille, and also Lisa, I send from the three of us our Greetings, and our wish that you and yours have had a Happy Christmas and will enjoy a Prosperous and Untroubled 2005.

With Love,

Christopher.

Dear Ladislao,

Unfortunately I have no use for this news letter so you can take me off the list.

But I finally got a hold of the 2 email addresses that you will be interested in.

First, simon.hayot@Sadipro.gp is the email address of Simon Hayot who is married to Raymon Vivies' daughter Collette.

Simon is very keen on Raymon's family history.

He is the one who takes the Vivies family photograph every year on the day of Raymon's mother's birthday.

Plus Simon speaks good English and has often gone to Trinidad.

Second, lvi@egce.gp is the email address of Laurence Vivies, wife of Raymon's son Bertrand.

Laurence is also related to the De Verteuil family from Trinidad.

PLEASE resend them the first pictures that you sent me of Raymon in Trinidad!!!

Best regards

Evelyne
